SPL is Closing its Doors June 09, 2017 10:35

I want to start off by thanking you for the 5+ amazing years of your support and friendship.   After thorough consideration, I’ve made a professional decision to close Shop Pray Love and move full time into my real estate career. I’ve teamed up with my mother who’s been in the business for 35 years.   I’m leaving SPL with a closet full of amazing clothes, some of the best friends I’ve ever met, and life long memories.   Please follow me on my personal facebook page so we can keep in touch (Cat Garruto).   Thank you again for your support and loyalty. I hope that you continue to buy American made products, support small designers and local business owners.   I will continue to rep for Beautycounter as I love and use the products. My website is beautycounter.com/catmercurio.   I will also continue to offer styling and...

How much money is hanging in your closet? December 27, 2016 14:20

I’m sure you’ve heard it before. “Women only wear 20% of their wardrobe, 80% of the time”. Why? Why do we spend money on items to NEVER wear them? What satisfaction are we getting from purchasing, but not wearing? Do we just like shopping for an item? Maybe getting something at a great sale price? Or snagging something we see on Pinterest, Insta or in a magazine? If it’s not perfect for our body type, coloring or lifestyle, it’s not a bargain at all. These are all the wrong reasons to spend our hard earned money and give up precious real estate in our closets. Many times we buy clothing for a lifestyle we don’t have. If 40% of our wardrobe is fancy evening wear or club clothes and we spend 80% of the time in ath-leisure apparel…we can’t wear all those great outfits.  At the Fashion Institute of Technology,...

Why I decided to partner with Beautycounter July 31, 2016 13:41

Why I decided to partner with Beautycounter How many times have you heard it? Another friend, co-worker, family member, loved one…was told they have cancer. Healthy, happy, wonderful people that don’t deserve this. I can’t!!!   As you know from my previous blogs, I had fertility issues when I wanted to start a family. I live a very healthy and happy life...but I’ve always loved my products.   The new contour/highlight kit…the serum that makes you look 10 years younger…the body lotion that keeps you looking dewy and youthful.   Can there be a link? Scientists are saying yes.    Exposure to toxic chemicals can lead to fertility issues, be hormone disruptors and may lead to cancer.   Wait. Our government wouldn’t allow toxic chemicals in our products. Umm, yes they do.        Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data.*...

7 Things You Can Do This Weekend To Start Organizing Your Closet December 09, 2015 06:57

Does the sight of your closet stress you out? Is it taking you too long to get dressed in the morning? Are you envious of every image on Pinterest that looks like a dream closet? Maybe we don’t have Carrie’s walk-in that Big built her, but we can organize our own closet to be inspiring and to help getting dressed quick & easy. Here are a handful of things you can do, which will take about half a day on Saturday or Sunday morning that you’ll be happy about on Monday. 1) This is the only step that I suggest which costs money. Invest in some flat, felt hangers, they take up less room and keeps your beautiful clothing hanging without creasing or slipping off. They are available anywhere from Walmart to Bed, Bath & Beyond. I’ve seen them at Costco in a box of 50. I would purchase what...

Grumbles From the Dressing Room July 07, 2015 07:08

Grumbles From the Dressing Room How do you speak to yourself?   Shop Pray Love has been in existence for over 3 years now, and I have assisted hundreds of women with choosing flattering items that help them look and feel their best. Well, most of them “feel” their best. I try…but I don’t have control over how women feel about themselves. I wish I did…I wish I had a magic wand to change some women’s perception of themselves.   Just the other day, I saw a clip of Taryn Brumfitt’s “Body Image Movement” documentary that she created.  https://bodyimagemovement.com.au  It’s really an emotional clip to watch. She asked 100 women to use one word to describe their body. Most of them were negative…actually, destructive. Many women described themselves as being disgusting. How sad, that you are totally disgusted with your own body.   Last Saturday night I was working a...

The beginning of SPL June 05, 2015 07:09

How Style/Fashion was a tool to increase my confidence As Oprah said, “You can have everything in life, just not all at the same time”. I had a great job as a sales manager of a high-end fitness club in Hoboken, NJ. It was beautiful, fun, upbeat and I worked with some great people. The money was good…the hours were long. Which was fine for a single gal. When I met my husband and knew I wanted to have a family, the long hours my job required, weren't going to be good for a new family. So I went back to school for my teaching certification and took a Health & Physical Education position at a HS in Newark. So now I had a meaningful job with decent hours (even though it was a ridiculous amount of work at home every night), but I was home in the evenings....
